EAA Chapter 972

Young Eagles

An educational task of us is also the Young-Eagle (YE) -work: everyone who is between 8 and 17 has the free & 100%-chance to see his neighbourhood from the birdsview. Without any obligation. An experienced pilot will fly him and explain him all the things around flying. Every kid should use this great chance and enjoy such a ride! The pilots do it too!

We appreciate YE-flights any time, please arrange them individually with Bill Vawter. See some lines below.

These flights are offered free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers.

Since 1992, more than 1.1 million Young Eagles have enjoyed a flight through the program. Young Eagles have been registered in more than 90 different countries and have been flown by nearly 40,000 volunteer pilots.

Participation is easy. Simply contact the EAA Young Eagles Office to find the closest volunteer pilot. In East Texas simply contact Bill Vawter by email or call him (home: 903-769-4031). He will arrange you a convenient time to go flying. You can also contact anyone on our member-page. Maybe you know anyone of us.

So what will your flight be like?

The biggest question on your mind might be about the actual flight. So what should you expect?

First of all, your pilot will explain what will happen during the flight. This might include talking about the airplane; reviewing an aeronautical chart (or map); identifying reference points during the flight; completing a careful "walk around" preflight inspection of the airplane and identifying the parts that control the airplane.

Once you are ready to go flying, your pilot will help you buckle your seat belt and describe the interior of the airplane, including the instrument panel. Pretty soon, it will be time to go flying!

Once in the air, you'll see the earth and sky in a new and exciting way. You'll experience the wonderful freedom of flight that many people only dream about. If you are like most Young Eagles, you'll remember this experience for the rest of your life.

Most Young Eagle flights last between 15 and 20 minutes. Once back on the ground, there will be additional time for you to ask questions about the flight. Ask away! Your pilot will be happy to tell you more about flying and their particular airplane. And don't forget, you'll also receive an official Young Eagles certificate, which is signed, by your personal pilot and our Chairman Harrison Ford.

We look forward to adding your name to the ever-growing list of EAA Young Eagles!

We hope you enjoy a Young Eagles introduction to the exciting world of aviation. Make sure you come back to visit this web site after your flight to continue exploring the wonderful world of aviation!

Information for Parents

(go to info for kids)     (go to top)

The Young Eagles program was launched in 1992 by EAA, the Experimental Aircraft Association, based in Oshkosh Wisconsin. Our mission is to provide a meaningful flight experience - free of charge - in a general aviation aircraft for young people (primarily) between the ages of 8 and 17.

Since the program's inception, more than 1.2 million Young Eagles have flown under the auspices of the program. These flights have been provided through the generosity of nearly 40,000 EAA member volunteer pilots. Countless other volunteers support the flights. Young Eagle flights have been conducted in every state in America; each province in Canada; and in more than 90 other countries. The flights have been safely conducted in nearly every type of general aviation aircraft, from light planes to business jets, and everything in between! Your child can join the ranks of Young Eagles and see their world from a whole new perspective.
There is one restriction: A parent must agree to the wish of his kid. For this we have a form, ready for download. You can fill it out before and give it to your kids before they are riding to the airfield, - or just drive yourself your kids to the airfield, where you can also make this "paperwork& quot; and also see what happens. Maybe a visit of an airfield is interesting for you too!

Please feel free to look at the Frequently Asked Questions Library for answers to specific questions you may have. If you would like to provide your child with the opportunity to take advantage of this unique program, please contact the Young Eagles Coordinator near you. For the the area of Longview/Tyler/Gladewater/Gilmer contact Bill Vawter (here via email) or on the member-page or on "his memberpage".
