AirRace in Taylor/TX

A couple friends participate in this Air Race last year. They said it was a ball and are doing it again this year. The race will be on May 19 at Taylor TX (T74).

It is not a closed coarse but a crosscountry 100 to 400 miles in length, depending on the class of aircraft. It is more of a race of skill and you are put in a class that matches your type of aircraft. As an example, my Comanche would be in the Factory 3 (FAC3) category which is a factory aircraft of 150 to 225 horsepower. If you had a Bonanza you might fit in that category or FAC2 which is 250 to 360 HP. Denny in the “shaker” Champ would be in FAC4 100 HP or below. My FlyBaby would be in Sprint class: experimental aircraft with displacement of 240 cubic inches or less. They have a total of 15 classes. This race league is supported by EAA.

This is a non-professional, Non-sponsored racing environment for builders and to test and improve aircraft modifications. The watch words of the race are Fun and Safety. The 2007 race is a Free event, no admission fee. However, if you want to go to their banquet to get your prize, you have to pay to go. Also, local EAA chapters are sponsoring it and supporting it with volunteer workers.
